Survey sent to potential respondents on: 25/01/2015 - at: 10:00 a.m.Closed on: 26/01/2015 - at: 16:00

After having received 38 responses, I knew it was time for me to analyze each results because this is a fair and equal amount of responses which will really help me in getting a good idea of who my target audience will mostly like be.

Survey

Planning for a music magazine questionnaire:

My objective is to now conduct a questionnaire to a sample of people to find specific information which I cannot necessary find from analyzing magazines alone.
Below, I have listed my research goals including the things I need to know and the things that would be nice to know.

What I will need to know:
  • Average age range: this will help me to figure out which type of language I should be using throughout to better suit the average audience preferences
  • A genre they would be most interested to reading about
  • How often they buy a magazine (i.e : this will allow me to know how often I should 'publish' my own music magazine
  • What the respondents would like to read/expect to find in the contents of my music magazine (i.e puzzles, free CD, reviews). I will also need to know whether they would be more interested in reading an informative article or an interview of someone within the industry (for the double page spread).

What would be nice to know/what I would like to know:
  • What clothes they usually buy and wear (i.e casual jeans and top or smart wear): influences the way in which I will be using props
  • What sort of elements are appealing to them (for example: bright green mixed with the main colour being black? - similar to Kerrnag!'s front cover)

Magazine Analysis

[For the past few weeks I have not been posting any updates to my journey because I have been doing my research on all five chosen magazines]

For this task, I am required to pinpoint all the subjects and elements that make up different types of magazines i.e mainstream magazine such as Q to display my understanding of the codes and conventions of magazine covers, contents page, and double-page spread. I have put all the analyses within a presentation format in Prezi. This can be seen below.

Double Page Spread: Language Analysis

Since I will be making a double page spread as well as the front cover and contents page for the main task, I thought it would be a good idea to analyze the language because this is the part where it is heavily informative and the type of language used can be reflected with the type of target audience you are reaching out to (i.e young people are usually more comfortable with slang because within society, they are fully aware and understand the colloquial language). It will help me to write up the double page spread in the construction process whilst making sure to represent my audience as this is a key element to creating a sense of community for my readers (in reference to Janice Winship's theory). This can be seen in the Prezi presentation.
